This month, we are proud to celebrate Verasonics’ 25th Anniversary. For a quarter century, Verasonics has been driven by a singular mission — to empower ultrasound innovation. Thanks to our customers and partners around the world, that vision has become a reality.

Founded in 2001, Verasonics began with a bold idea to fundamentally change how ultrasound research and development is done by giving scientists and engineers unprecedented flexibility and control over their systems. From the very beginning, our focus has been on enabling freedom to experiment, accelerating discovery, and bringing novel ultrasound technologies and applications to life.

What originated as a garage startup has grown into the world’s leading provider of ultrasound platforms for research, development and commercialization, trusted by academic and commercial users worldwide.

Key Moments in Our Journey

Over the last 25 years, Verasonics has achieved several defining milestones that have shaped both our company and the global ultrasound community.

2001 – Verasonics is Founded

Established in the Seattle area by Ronald E. Daigle, Verasonics set out to revolutionize the ultrasound industry by developing a highly programmable ultrasound platform with a software-based beamformer capable of leveraging exponential increases in computer processing power for years to come.

2005 – Joint Development Agreement Signed

Expanded the team with Co-founder, Lauren Pflugrath, to execute a joint development project with the company’s first commercial licensee to bring shear wave elastography to market for breast imaging.

2007 – Release of our First Commercial System, V-1

The company’s early efforts culminated in the commercialization of its first research system, the V-1, offering breakthrough capabilities including real-time RF data access, planewave imaging, and extended transmit.

2013 – Launch of the Vantage® Research Ultrasound System

With several improvements and new capabilities, over the next decade Vantage became a cornerstone of ultrasound research and development worldwide.

2023 – Introduction of the Vantage of NXT System

Building on the success of Vantage, the Vantage NXT delivers enhanced performance, expanded bandwidth, and next-generation transceiver designed to meet the evolving needs of today and tomorrow’s most advanced ultrasound applications.

Today – Expansion Across Research, Development & Commercialization:

Verasonics systems have now been cited in over 5,500 scientific publications, supporting breakthroughs in biomedical imaging, focused ultrasound therapy, photoacoustics, materials science, and beyond. Additionally, several new clinical applications are in development by our partners.

Driven by Our Community – Looking Ahead

What truly defines Verasonics is not just our technology, but the community behind it. Researchers, engineers, and commercial partners across the globe use Verasonics systems to push boundaries, challenge assumptions, and transform ideas into impact.
