Verasonics’ Latest Advances in Research Ultrasound Technology: Introducing Vantage® NXT – the NXT Level in Research Ultrasound!
The Vantage NXT is the successor to Verasonics’ pioneering and industry-leading Vantage Research Ultrasound System. Continuing Verasonics’ mission to provide state-of-the-art research platforms, the Vantage NXT builds upon the versatility of Vantage with enhanced performance and additional features.
The transceiver is the heart of an ultrasound acquisition device, but not all transceivers are created equal. Verasonics’ proprietary NXT transceiver was specifically engineered to provide the next level of transmit and receive fidelity required for cutting-edge ultrasound research.
Vantage NXT offers:
- Leading-edge transmit and receive fidelity
- Improved high frequency performance and imaging
- Enhanced arbitrary waveform generation
- Expanded frequency bandwidth
- Interactive help system
- Additional I/O capabilities
Vantage NXT Research Ultrasound Systems are available in the same configurations as Vantage systems and maintain upgradability across channel counts. Vantage NXT preserves the Vantage programming model and is compatible with Vantage scripts, UTA adapters, and transducers.

Title: Real-Time Thermal Strain Imaging for Guidance and Monitoring of HIFU Treatment on an Ultrasound-guided Focused Ultrasound (USgFUS) Therapy System
Description: A real-time thermal strain ultrasound imaging method based on the well-known temperature dependence of the speed of sound was implemented. Thermal Strain Imaging (TSI) is a qualitative thermometric method that is useful for targeting and monitoring of ultrasound-guided focused ultrasound therapy. A graphical control interface, for visualization and control of HIFU treatment, was implemented on a Verasonics system using two Sonic Concept transducers: a high energy transducer (model H-301, 1.1 MHz, 128-element, 150 mm f#1) and an imaging transducer (IP-104, 3.5 MHz, 128-elements). The system was used for exposure and imaging of a custom alginate-based phantom. Sixteen different combinations of transmit burst power and duty cycles were used to sonicate a single focal location where a thermocouple was placed under image guidance. Good correlation was found between TSI values at the thermocouple and measured temperatures for mild heating. The implemented TSI method is a useful approach to guidance and monitoring of focused ultrasound treatment and can even be used to estimate temperature rise for moderate heating.

Description: In this study, the researchers focused on tracking state of health (SOH) changes associated with lithium plating in lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). Lithium plating is one of the main degradation mechanisms during fast charging or low temperature conditions, and it occurs when lithium metal is deposited on the negative electrode surface. This study suggests that the mid-band fit (MBf) QUS parameter could be used to track lithium plating and to differentiate between different SOH levels following degradation cycling. Batteries with lower SOH exhibited a drop in MBf at lower voltages during ageing, which the researchers hypothesized was caused by lithium plating. These findings suggest that lithium plating is a critical factor in battery degradation and that QUS measurements can provide insight into its effects on battery performance.
