Plane Wave Newsletter (Vol. 3, Issue 5) Focused on HIFUPlex Platform

Interest in ultrasound-guided focused ultrasound techniques has been growing among researchers worldwide. Along with HIFU (high-intensity focused ultrasound) for ablative procedures, scientists are now discovering additional approaches, including enhanced drug delivery, that call for precisely-targeted, however lower power, focused ultrasound to attain a therapeutic response.
Verasonics/Sonic Concepts HIFUPlex – Focused Ultrasound Foundation Research Funding Agreement
A couple of years ago, Verasonics and Sonic Concepts, Inc. collaborated to release the HIFUPlex™ product portfolio. This includes Verasonics’ Vantage HIFU Research Ultrasound systems. The Vantage research systems were integrated with Sonic Concepts’ high-performance imaging and therapy array transducers. Today, researchers in North America, Europe and Asia, are exploring new procedures using these innovative products.
Recently Verasonics and Sonic Concepts finalized a research funding agreement with the FUSF (Focused Ultrasound Foundation) to augment the HIFUPlex.
The goal of the agreement is to achieve turn-key solutions for small and lard USgFUS animal research. Both companies have agreed to develop additional products that will facilitate research by providing an enhanced user interface regarding 3D imaging for 3D therapy planning and delivery, motorized mechanical support properties and inclusion of thermal strain imaging meant for monitoring.
At the ISTU/EUFUS Conference in Barcelona, Spain, June 13 – 15, Verasonics and Sonic Concepts will be revealing plans for their latest developments. In addition, they’ll be demonstrating the rotary ability of the imaging probe with regards to the USgFUS applicator.
HIFUPlex development is moving forward at a rapid pace with the new HIFUPlex PLUS 1000 and HIFUPlex PLUS 3000 solutions expected to be ready for release by the end of 2019.

Verasonics Community
Verasonics is now offering their Vantage clients accessibility to the Verasonics Community. A web-based portal, the Verasonics Community was created to provide quick, easy access to useful product information, tools for training and more. The online community also gives client’s access to a programming script repository. In addition, there are a series of training videos available that include presentations and tutorials.
